How to prepare your lawn for the season with organic fertiliser

After winter, lawns often look tired, patchy, and sensitive to traffic. Instead of forcing them with an abrupt feeding cycle, the goal is to wake up the root zone, stabilise the soil, and encourage dense growth with a calmer sequence of actions.

1. Start only when the soil has warmed up

If the ground is still cold and soaked, fertiliser will not perform as well. Wait until the lawn starts greening actively and mowing becomes normal again.

2. Remove thatch and dry residue first

Light scarifying or thorough raking helps nutrients reach the soil more evenly and improves airflow in the top layer.

3. Apply the organic fertiliser evenly

The best result comes from a calm, even application. Avoid dense piles or darker strips. Water lightly after feeding so the nutrients settle into the root zone.

4. Give the lawn two to three weeks to respond

An organic approach is not based on shock. It tends to deliver a steadier response: improved density, more even colour, and stronger growth over time.
